I agree that we also need to teach students to edit as they read. Not everything is reliable and if you do a Google search you can't trust the first site that comes up. I agree that mastery is important rather than the test, but how do we balance that with the tests colleges are requiring for admission? I think part of the problem is that we are focused too much on getting students into a good college whereas we should be looking at how do we actually educate our students.

So i am going to jump on the bandwagon and agree that I am in love with they statement that we need to teach students that they are not only readers but editors as well. You are right that we need to make student realize that they have to identify what are good sources and reliable and accurate and what sources are not.
