Personally I love both social bookmarking tools and Twitter. The fact is however that they take up so much time! I don’t know about you but on my personal Twitter account I follow a bunch of different celebrities, musicians, and athletes just to be on top of the latest gossip. It is a very social place and it is not only informational but just a great place to joke around with others that have the same interests as you. Professionally I have a school Twitter account setup but have been very cautious with it – posting homework reminders as well as a technology joke every so often. Social bookmarking is a great tool but tends to overload my need for information as I check out one tag in Diigo and keep going and going like the energizer bunny through all sorts of web pages on topics I didn’t even know I was interested in! My students however use the tools quite productively as I have them in “virtual” groups and they can come together to share resources for their projects and assignments. It is also an easy way for me to get them web resources and other information.
